| Elaine Schultz, 69, of Luana, IA. and Sun Lakes, AZ., was taken home to Our Lord and Savior on June 9, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. [I believe she was run over by a golf cart.] Elaine was born July 11, 1939, the sixth child of Arthur and Lucille (Bruns) Wagner in Farmersburg, IA, where she spent her childhood. She graduated from Monona-Farmersburg High School in 1957. On a beautiful snow-covered January 25, 1958, she was united in marriage to Jerome Schultz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, where she had been baptized and confirmed. Elaine spent most of her early married life farming with Jerome on their dairy farm. She was famous for her cooking and an ability to produce a meal for a crowd at a moment’s notice. She enjoyed sewing as a hobby and fashioned many matching outfits for her daughters for holiday occasions, hemmed and patched many garments, and constructed intricate square dancing outfits for herself and Jerome. She enjoyed their children’s many school sporting and musical activities as well as the company of their card club. In the 1980’s, Elaine held several positions off the farm at Monona Wire Corporation, Farmersburg Implement, and Hanson Chiropractic. Jerome and Elaine moved to Chandler, AZ. in 1987 where Elaine held several medical receptionist positions for area health care organizations. In 1999, Elaine and Jerome retired and spent the summer constructing their log home north of Luana. Elaine spent many warm winters in Arizona and warm summers in Iowa playing cards, mahjong, golfing, bowling, swimming, attending flea markets, and caring for her beloved hummingbirds. During her rich life, Elaine made lasting friends from community activities including St. John’s Lutheran Church in Luana, MFL Booster Club, Allamakee County Extension Service, United Church of Christ in Sun Lakes, AZ. and the Red Hat Society. Elaine will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Jerome; their seven children: Juliet (RenĂ©) Andreu of Tucson, AZ, Tom (Pam) of North Liberty, IA., Alan (Lisa) of Fairbanks, AK., Barb (Ron) Berns of Monona, IA., Sara Gill of Oak Park, IL, Rhonda (Mike) Bachman of Monticello, IA, and Mike of Sun Lakes, AZ; twelve grandchildren, Jennifer and Megan Andreu, Hailey Schultz, Heather and Heidi Schultz, Jake and Morgan Berns, Emily and Kristin Gill, and Casey, Cody, and Kelby Bachman; her mother, Lucille Wagner of Elkader; brothers, Donald (Shirley) Wagner of Farmersburg, Roger (Alice) Wagner of Dubuque and David (Liz) of Elkader; sisters, Mary Lou (Myron) Ihde of Monona, Delores Klingman of Volga, and JoAnn (Lloyd) Scherf of Harpers Ferry; her father-in-law, Malin Schultz of Monona; her sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Al) Runau of Marion, Bette (Ron) Keehner of Prairie du Chien, WI, Vicky Schultz of Arcadia, WI., and Brenda (Mark) Howard of Elgin. We cannot fail to mention the host of family and friends in both Iowa and Arizona that will always cherish Elaine for her smiling face, twinkling eyes, energetic personality, and loving hugs. Elaine was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Wagner; two siblings, Karl and Jean Wagner; her mother-in-law Dorothy Schultz and three brothers-in-law, James Schultz, William Schultz, and LeRoy Klingman. |
