He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waukon and in 1971, he graduated from Waukon High School. From 1972-1974, Steve served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany for one year. In 1973, Steve married Karla Thorstenson at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in Waukon; they later divorced. Steve was a well-traveled man; besides living in Germany and Iowa, he also lived in Texas and Louisiana. In 1988, Steve and Dolores Aucoin married at the Assumption Parish in Henderson, LA; the couple later divorced. In 2001, he returned to Waukon and in 2011, Steve married Gloria Moose at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waukon. Steve worked a variety of jobs throughout his life. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waukon. Steve liked to work with his hands, whether it was doing mechanical work, woodworking, or just tinkering and fixing things. He enjoyed being outdoors, and liked gardening, camping, and off-roading with his Jeep and truck. Steve also liked to cook, and loved spending time with his grandkids.
Steve preferred to live life on his own terms. As Steve said, “Nothing to fear in dying, being afraid to live is wrong.”
